Adult Day Care

Care in the community refers to Adult Day Care. These centers provide an opportunity for care outside home during normal workday hours and are usually open Monday through Friday. Almost 80% of Adult Day Care is non-profit and almost 70% are part of a larger organization.

There are two “models” or types of Adult Day Care: social model and medical model. Both types provide meals, assist with Activities of Daily Living, provide transportation to and from the facility and include social activities. Medical model centers also provide medical care like short-term therapy for someone recently discharged from the hospital or care for chronic conditions.
