Respite Care

Respite Care is when a regular caregiver gets a short-term break. It can mean either a Home Care agency takes over at home or the person getting care goes to an Assisted Living Facility, Nursing Home or Adult Daycare Center.

Respite Care can be one-time or recurring and last from a few days up to a few months. Here are creative examples of using Respite Care:

1) A few weeks each year when the family goes camping.
2) When the family home is being remodeled and the construction in the house make it hard for the care recipient.
3) To allow a family to “test” the idea of using an Adult Day care or an Assisted Living Facility or care in their home from a non-family member.
