Difference between Health Care and Long term Care or Elder Care

The different between Health Care and Long Term Care/Elder Care comes down to the difference between “skilled care” and “unskilled care”. Health care is “skilled care” and that means it is trying to cure you, to make you better, and is typically provided by someone with a license (a doctor, nurse, physician assistant etc.).

Long term care/elder care is typically a type of care called “unskilled care” which means it is not trying to cure you of a condition or illness but helping you live day by day. Long term care/elder care is usually help with what is called the “Activities of Daily Living (ADLs)” activities that we need to do every day like getting dressed, getting in and out of a bed or chair and going to the toilet.
